| The Market Potential for our Products and Services According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics 2004, shipments of just-in-time deliveries usually carried by expediting trucks weighing less than 50,000 pounds is on the rise. This segment of the trucking industry grew at a rate twice that of any other segment. Air freight also grew at nearly the same rate. Air freight is usually moved on the ground by expediters, meaning that the expediting business shows the greatest overall growth from 1993 to 2002. Smaller shipments of less than 500 pounds grew 56% from 1993 to 2002 the most of any size shipment. This was caused by many companies implementing a system of smaller just-in- time inventories. Shipment by courier services grew more than 80%; this includes shipments of such things as electronics, appliances, computers and office equipment. These products and services are part of the expediting segment of the trucking industry. Expediting services is usually defined by an “exclusive use truck”, one that carries a load for a single customer. The straight truck is the most used in providing this service. The straight truck can be up to 42 feet long. Most straight trucks have a 22 foot box and can carry up to 17,000 pounds. These trucks are usually fitted with a 78 inch sleeper and have 2 drivers (a team). They can stay out on the road for extended periods of time and can run around the clock. According to the Bureau of Transportation in the year 2004 the trucking industry carried on a typical day more than 43 million tons of freight with a value of 29 billion dollars and traveled more than 2 billion miles on US highways. For the year 2002 the total freight weight transported in the United States was 16 billion tons with a value of 11 trillion dollars and have traveled about 5 trillion miles. The overall outlook for the expediting business is even greater growth, given the efficiency of this segment. Shippers can be assured of on-time delivery and safe transportation of their goods. Shipping in exclusive use trucks is a smart solution for smaller companies too. They can track the shipment and can reduce their own inventories and build and ship only what is needed. |
